Understand

One of the more frustrating aspects of struggling with emotional distress is that emotions are not logical, they certainly aren’t rational, and they often occur for reasons that make no sense what so ever. No wonder keeping things together is so difficult when these confusing forces of nature are pushing against us!

Thankfully, there are ways to make sense of what emotions are, why they happen, and what they are trying achieve. In my therapy office, I help people understand the distress they are struggling. Admittedly, understanding emotions never makes them go away and rarely does it even make them less intense. However, the majority of people i have worked with over the years report understanding the nature of their distress makes coping with uncomfortable emotions much easier to accomplish.
